For more than 10 years, the Ridgewood YMCA, in cooperation with the YMCA d’Haiti, has helped to bring annual soccer camps to local youths in Haiti.
This summer, over 250 young boys and girls from all over Haiti participated in the soccer camp, led by former Ridgewood YMCA Board of Directors member, Jim Delia. The camp took place in the Haitian town of Caracol from July 12 to 19, and also included vollyeball training.
Says Delia, “Soccer is an escape for most of these kids. It’s a way to occupy their day and for many, the game is a lifesaver. Our goal is take that enthusiasm for the game and use it to teach these kids some of the core values of the Y such as responsibility, teamwork, honesty, respect and caring”.
Thank you Jim for your generosity and contributions to the YCMA and youth of Haiti.
